Lil RYSErs

This summer, RYSE’s elementary group, the Lil’ Rysers, explored every step of the filmmaking process in our hands-on video production workshop. They dreamed up original movie concepts, mapped them out through storyboarding and shot lists, and wrote their own scripts. From there, they learned filmmaking techniques, practiced camera operation, and even flew a drone to capture aerial footage. The experience wrapped with editing sessions, where the Lil’ RYSErs turned their ideas into completed short films ready to share.

Marlene & Aleena

Marlene & Aleena won the most creative award for good reason as The Banana in the Fridge was absolutely genius. A story of a banana on its chase for freedom from a refrigerator, the short film is comedic and innovative blending normal everyday objects and items into an entertaining tale that hits every note; it’s a must see!

The Kinetics by Santi

Santi had the most ambitious concept: a superhero team origin story filled with special effects… and he absolutely delivered!. From brainstorming and scriptwriting to reshoots to editing, Santi had lofty goals but was sure he would achieve them. Extremely detail oriented and precise, he made sure each and every aspect of his vision was seen through to completion. Original superheroes, action, conflict, super powers--The Kinetics has it all!

Ryse Center by James

James has a dual career set in the future as both a narrator and filmmaker after his first feature debuted to resounding applause. A piece showcasing the beloved RYSE Center, he captures what makes the RYSE Center special to him. With a little assist from is father, RYSE Center showcases the uniqueness of such a special place and what blossoms from seeds planted long ago.

Escape from Outside by Marcel

Marcel’s film tells the timeless tale of a protagonist who doesn't listen to reason and gets lost out in the big city. With an iconic high angle drone shot, Escape from Outside is cinematographically magnificent and a true testament to the technical prowess of this young filmmaker.

The House in the Woods by Joaquin

Joaquin was a bit shy stepping into the spotlight, but he was born for it. In this hilarious story, Joaquin plays a fun loving kid who loves pizza, fortnite, and getting himself into trouble. The stand out comedy of the summer, The House in the Woods will have you laughing nonstop!

We wrapped up the Lil’ Rysers summer workshop with a mini film festival where each young participant premiered their short film on the big screen. Families, staff, and peers came together to celebrate, giving the kids a chance to see their ideas come to life and share their stories with an audience. The festival marked the end of weeks of learning camera skills, editing, and storytelling, and served as a celebration of their creativity, teamwork, and growth.

Celebration!!!
